I hatched a plan with John. On Monday night, only a few people knew about it (some of them quite randomly coz they messaged asking about upcoming events).
And now, quite suddenly, we’ve got a collab – Spro Sprint to Brewmas: a festive fundraiser raising funds for FoodBank!

How have I found myself able to update this page? Jah praise having time to spend at home. Been catching up on some non-coffee work but also managed to find time to draw up the spro sprint artwork.
Wanted to order a book from ILF but they don’t have express postage so I won’t be able to get it in time for Saturday. It’s a bummer coz there are some really good books. I still want to order them but now the urgency is gone. Might just direct people to the website… or maybe there are books at the head office in Sydney 🤞🤞

I have been so damn busy. This happens in life. But don’t worry – like everything, it has its time and then it passes.
Next thing you know you’ve opened up WordPress and are updating the news section of your website that people only read by accident.
When’s the next event? I feel like it should be next week. We should probably do it next week. Let me see if I can do it next week – some things are happening next week that we should probably go to.

Hey Vasi (we never really said that it was ok to shorten your name like this I hope you forgive me) if you’re reading this, I started answering your 10 questions last night. I am now less beautiful for they have taken both my beauty and my sleep. Such is the toil I put into all that I do.
In other news, Spro Sprint 3 is on Wednesday. Then there is also the matter of the EventBrite I need to post for the Sunday Roast cupping… 🪦

Sunday Roast went so well! Now I want to visit the 400kg/hr roasting facility that Dan built out in QLD.
We did a lot. And because things went so smoothly, I think it’s really easy to miss the important roles that Dan’s roasting system played in enabling it. Dan and Carter delivered content, demonstrated, showed us around, answered questions; had one-on-one conversations and attended to adhoc enquiries from cafe customers. On top of all this, Dan, Carter and I did not have a dry run – we had a plan but it was our first time running any event together.
I felt like everyone got something out of today (besides coffee). Looking forward to the cupping next week ☕️🥄

This morning I finally started working on the Syd Coffee Tours logo. Actually, I started working on it last night but didn’t get anywhere – I was trying too hard and the ink (like literal ink) just wasn’t making shapes I liked.
I kept thinking: I dunno if I would have ever made it as a graphic designer – I’m struggling to come up with something that fits my requirements and is also good. If I had an actual deadline I’m stuffed. Thankfully sleep helped.
This morning the ink (digital this time) was making some good shapes. Honestly sometimes I can barely believe I’m drawing – I just watch my hand draw. Anyhoo new logo’s on the way. Yay.

3 more spots left for Sunday Roast – I have to admit that getting the spots filled has been stressing me out.
In other news, I’ve added pages to the site now. “Pages” as opposed to “posts”. Hitherto I’ve just been posting and navigation has become a bit wild. Good problem to have I suppose.
Anyway pages will be a way to group posts together. I’ve added Articles, Events, Spro Sprint and Tours.
Also added a dedicated page for Sunday Roast – Workshop Overview (information care of Dan). It’s admittedly a janky way of doing things (creating a page – not the contents) but since I had already written a post, I couldn’t reconcile making another one. Still the information was important and I wanted to highlight the event – so it gets its own page.
I’m grateful for that problem as it led me to think of creating the new pages for easier navigation.

Twas a solid meeting with Dan (The Coffee Roaster) yesterday. Things are lined up for Sunday 2 November for the roasting event.

Finally started working on Tour 18 highlights today. Later than I would normally but I haven’t been feeling it.
Cupping this Sunday was on the cards but decided to push it to next week so that I can get more metaphorical ducks in a row.

Stayed up drawing up Spro Sprint. I can’t believe how much time I spent relettering “sprint” – looks like I drew it in 5 seconds without much thought 😂. If you’re reading this – the imperfect nature of it is deliberate – it’s human and that’s who my tours are for ☕️

Oh my java. Finished editing the Tour 17 highlight reel. It was such a slog – worked from 8am until now 4:15pm with a 2hr break). Still need to caption. Will post tomorrow night.

Called around to Dan at The Coffee Roaster yesterday to field ideas for the roasting comp. The event structure needs some thought. Also picked up some blends. I’m very excited about what I’m discovering and can’t wait to share!

One more sequence to cut for the Tour 16 highlights reel. Not bad. Recorded the voice over yesterday and started cutting the clips today. Reckon I’ve spent 6-7 hrs so far from script writing to now.

Good turn out for yesterday’s tour – we changed things up with a bonus cafe and a change in route but it was worth it. Also loved seeing people kick on after the tour for drinks (seems to be becoming a thing now!).
I feel like people were engaged in genuine conversations (despite them not being coffee-related 😂) and making meaningful connections. Also it was surprising seeing how many people in the group had PhDs or were starting their PhDs 🧠

Spent the last few mornings working on various bits: the script for Tour 16, a post about Headlands Flour Mill Blend and whether or not to change things up a bit for Tour 17’s “coffeenomics” activities.

Also made a screen recording (14GB!) that I’ll be turning into a timelapse and a post talking about hand drawing the tour posts.

Yah it’s official – we’re going to Alexandria in Tour 17 on Sep 14. Parramatta is off the cards with most of the specialty cafes in Parramatta city closed on Sunday. Save it for another time.
